Leadership Giving

Philanthropy was critical during the formative years of Bennington College and continues to nurture and sustain its unique character today. Here are just a few of the ways to make major philanthropic investments in Bennington.

Associates Society

The Elizabeth J. Franklin Associates Society

The Elizabeth J. Franklin Associates Society, which includes all donors to Bennington College who give $1,000 or more per year, for any purpose, was conceived to offer leadership donors the opportunity to have a substantial effect on—and more directly share in—the life of the College.

Last year, Associate-level gifts accounted for approximately 86 percent of all dollars raised. These leadership donations provide Bennington with the necessary funding to attract and retain superior faculty, to offer outstanding and deserving students scholarship assistance, to introduce innovative educational programming, and to continue campus renewal efforts.

How Do I Become a Leadership Donor?

Join the Associates Society by making a gift at any one of the following giving levels. If you have questions or would like to discuss your giving options, please call 800-598-2979 or email Cindy Luce.

  • President’s Circle Associate ($25,000 and higher)
  • Patron Associate ($10,000–$24,999)
  • Sponsoring Associate ($5,000–$9,999)
  • Founding Associate ($2,500–$4,999)
  • Associate ($1,000–$2,499)

If you would like to join this group of donors but cannot make an outright gift at the Associate-level, consider making your annual gift in smaller installments throughout our fiscal year. Silo

The Silo Legacy Society

Philanthropy has played an important role at Bennington since the very beginning. Legacy giving plays a vital role in its future.

If you would like to extend your support of Bennington to make a lasting impact, there are several gift arrangements to choose from. Whether you would like to support our work today or benefit us after your lifetime, you can find a charitable plan that lets you provide for your family and support Bennington. Here are some of the most popular charitable plans to consider:

Remember Us in Your Will

Structure your will to provide for your family first. Then include a gift to the charitable organizations you love. Just a few simple sentences and a meeting with an estate planning attorney are all it takes.

Make a Gift and Receive Fixed Payments for Life

If you'd like to support Bennington and receive steady payments for life, a charitable gift annuity may be right for you.

Donate Stocks

If you give stocks you've owned for more than one year that are worth more than when you purchased them, you'll qualify for significant tax advantages.

Give Retirement Plan Assets

Consider making Bennington a beneficiary of a percentage of your retirement plan assets. Then, leave less heavily taxed assets to your loved ones.

Arrange a Charitable Trust

With a charitable remainder trust, you can receive income each year (either fixed or variable) from assets you place in the trust. After your lifetime, the balance in the trust goes to the charities of your choice.

Use Life Insurance to Make a Gift

There are several ways you can use life insurance to give back to Bennington. We can help you explore your options.
