Matt Katz is a leader and innovator of online ceramic material science education and research. He loves to use his knowledge of art and engineering to make ceramic science accessible for all levels of makers.

Biography

Katz is a working ceramic artist with a BFA from Alfred University and an MFA from the University of Colorado-Boulder. His background includes working as a ceramic engineer and researcher for over 20 years, including 15 years teaching ceramic materials to artists at Alfred University. He is currently a co-founder of Ceramic Materials Workshop, an online education company that offers ceramic materials courses to students who want to learn more about their glazes and clays. His goal is to make ceramic science understandable to all makers so they can make their studios the best they can be. Katz is a visiting faculty member at Bennington for Spring 2024.
