Russell Stuart Lilie was a member in Shen Wei Dance Arts which is known for its large scale and immersive productions. His own work and teaching focuses on pattern and performance.


Biography

Lilie is a New York based dancer and choreographer who received his BFA from NYU in 2011. He has worked with Shen Wei Dance Arts (2011-18), RedCurrant Collective (2011-13), Dai Jian dance (2014-15), Anneke Hanson (2015-18), and Russell Dumas (2017-18). His performance career has taken him to twelve countries where he has performed on traditional stages like Lincoln Center, and in nontraditional venues like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Art Basel Hong Kong.

Choreographically, Lilie's work has been presented by Danspace Project, La Ma Ma, Gibney Dance Center, and the Watusi Project. He recently completed his first commission, Diastereomer, for the Peabody Academy at John Hopkins University. As a dance teacher, Lilie has worked with students from elementary schools to master degree programs in the United States and China. He also teaches at the summer and winter intensives for Shen Wei Dance Arts. Lilie received his MFA in Dance at Bennington in Spring 2020.
