OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | “Listen to the beats / The rhythm of my Bushwick streets.”

Bennington alumnus and Brooklyn impresario Modesto Flako Jimenez '06 conjures his beloved borough in this bilingual elegy, told through poems, projections, and music. With lyrical brilliance and irreverent play, ¡Oye! For My Dear Brooklyn complicates our perceptions of race, language, and gentrification and calls us to be truly present. This production just premiered at the highly acclaimed Under the Radar Festival at the Public Theater in New York. With savage lyricism, Flako populates the stage with immigrants, drug dealers, condoritos, tiguerasos, mothers and sons, all asking the same question: “What is my moral worth?”

Flako will present an excerpt of his piece, followed by a discussion of the work.
