See description Bennington College

CAMPUS COMMUNITY ONLY | In this talk, artist and candidate for the visiting faculty position in photography Luiza Folegatti will present her research merging the production of photography essays, experiments with collaborative methods from visual anthropology, and her experience as a social worker supporting immigrant communities. Drawing on long-term fieldwork and community-based workshops, her own experience as an immigrant in Germany and in the U.S., and close collaboration with several non-profits, Folegatti’s work productively combines artistic and social practice. Her current project, Between Generations, explores how mothers and daughters, who migrated together to the U.S. or are first-generation, build solidarity in the intimacy of their relationship to achieve their goals. In addition to presenting this work, Folegatti will discuss how she has developed a creative practice that invites participants to reflect together on their relationships with photography and representation.

Luiza Folegatti (she/her) is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist and visual anthropologist based in North Adams, MA. Her research interests include gender, migration, photography, and Latin American studies, and she integrates artistic practice, teaching photography, and social advocacy work around the rights of immigrants.
