OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Ishion Hutchinson is the author of the essay collection Fugitive Tilts (FSG, 2025) and the author of three books of poems, School of Instructions (FSG, 2023), House of Lords and Commons (FSG, 2016) and Far District (Peepal Tree Press, 2010). A finalist for the L.A. Times Book Award in Poetry, he is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Susannah Hunnewell Prize from The Paris Review, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature, and Institute of Jamaica’s Gold Musgrave Medal for distinguished contributions to literature. Born in Jamaica, he lives in Ithaca, New York, and teaches at Cornell University, where he is a co-founding member of the Global Black Initiative Collective.
