Democracy is a Verb: Learning Civics Through Participation

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | The latest event in the Bennington College's Center for the Advancment of Public Action (CAPA) fall series features Na Eng, Chief Creative Officer at People For the American Way, a progressive advocacy organization advancing freedom, justice, and democracy.

Eng is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and the bestselling author of The Art of Saving Democracy: An Action Kit for Making Change. She brings together storytelling, art, and civic engagement to explore a question that feels increasingly urgent: How do we turn concern about the state of our democracy into meaningful action?

Eng will share reflections on overcoming cynicism and fear, finding creative, experiential pathways to greater civic participation, and exploring the unique power that students and young people have to shape the future of our democracy. In this interactive session, attendees will also have an opportunity to consider their own capacity to be agents of change—and consider where they can contribute.
