OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Poetry at Bennington welcomes Carolyn Forché for a public reading of their poetry.

Carolyn Forché is a poet, memoirist, translator, and human rights activist who serves as Director of Readings and Talks at the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice and a University Professor in the Department of English at Georgetown University. She is the author of Otherwhere: New and Selected Poems, 1976-2026 (Scribner), as well as five previous collections of poetry: In the Lateness of the World (Penguin, 2020), a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize; Blue Hour (HarperCollins, 2004), a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award; The Angel of History (HarperCollins, 1995), which won the LA Times Book Award; The Country Between Us (Harper & Row, 1982), a Lamont Selection of the Academy of American Poets; and Gathering the Tribes, which received the 1975 Yale Younger Poets Award. She also authored the memoir What You Have Heard is True (Penguin, 2019), winner of Juan E. Mendez Book Award for Human Rights in Latin America and a finalist for the National Book Award; and edited the anthology Against Forgetting: Twentieth-Century Poetry of Witness (Norton, 1993). She has translated the poetry of Claribel Alegría, Mahmoud Darwish, and Robert Desnos, among others, and her own poetry has been translated into more than thirty languages.
