About this Event
VSO Jukebox musicians dive into works by traditional and cutting-edge composers with infectious passion.

Brooklyn-based composer and guitarist Kaki King, hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself” and one of the publication’s “New Guitar Gods,” joins the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Jukebox String Quartet in concert October 14 as part of the Carriage Barn Concert Series. With nine albums released over the past 14 years, Kaki’s eclectic guitar voice has been heard live on every continent over the course of multiple world tours, and at variety of prestigious arts centers, including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, MoMA, LACMA, and The Met. Her music for numerous film and TV soundtracks is acclaimed, including “August Rush” and Sean Penn’s “Into the Wild,” for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score.

“I’m a guitar player. Classical ain’t what it used to be, the repertoire has changed radically, people are so much more open to playing contemporary compositions these days. It isn’t this sort of pissing contest that perhaps it used to be. The field of players out there has changed radically over the last few years, and it’s so cool!” she said.

Opening its sixth season with Kaki, the VSO’s Jukebox string quartet performance includes music composed by Bryce Dessner (guitarist for The National), Joachim Rodrigo, Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), and more, curated by Artistic Advisor and Project Conductor Matt LaRocca.

The performance will be at The Deane Carriage Barn at Bennington College and advance reservations/tickets are required for this special event. This concert is a collaborative production between VSO Jukebox and the Deane Carriage Barn Concert series.
