As vultures sit atop the scavenger food chain, they play an outsized role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Learn about nature’s most important scavengers and how their disappearance in Africa is linked to predators like lions and hyenas. Why should we care about vultures and what is being done to save them, especially with the challenges facing global conservation as a result of Covid-19?

Darcy Ogada is the assistant director of Africa Programs for The Peregrine Fund, a non-profit organization based in Boise, Idaho whose aim is conserving birds of prey worldwide. Based in Kenya, Darcy is a leading expert on African vultures and is the Africa Region Co-chair of the IUCN Vulture Specialist Group.
