OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Zoom on Zoom: The Emerging Etiquette of Online Group Communications Media, or WTF Another Hour-Long Meeting? A conversation between Anne Thompson and Prem Krishnamurthy.

It’s all happening on Zoom, from yoga and therapy to dining, dancing and parties of all kinds. How are social behaviors shifting as a result? How does Zoom stand or wobble as a platform for personal connection, and how are people making it work for them? How is the art world responding to the challenges and opportunities of online content? Award-winning designer and curator Prem Krishnamurthy—fresh from Zoom hosting a hybrid chat show-lecture series from his Berlin studio—talks with Usdan Gallery director Anne Thompson about vulnerability, community and karaoke.

Prem Krishnamurthy is a curator, designer, writer, and teacher based in Berlin and New York. He is a partner of the design practice Wkshps and Co-Artistic Director of FRONT International 2022, the Cleveland triennial of contemporary art. As an independent curator, Prem has organized exhibitions internationally such as Fikra Graphic Design Biennial 01: Ministry of Graphic Design, Sharjah, UAE; 13th A.I.R. Biennial: let’s try listening again, New York; Creative Operational Solutions, Para Site, Hong Kong; and DIS-PLAY / RE-PLAY, Austrian Cultural Forum New York. He has directed strategic design projects with institutions including the Berkeley Art Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Dhaka Art Summit, Guggenheim, L’internationale, MoMA, SALT, and Yale University Art Gallery. Previously, Prem was the founder and curator of P!, the experimental “Mom-and-Pop-Kunsthalle” in New York’s Chinatown, as well as co-founder of the design studio Project Projects. He is a winner of the Cooper Hewitt Museum’s National Design Award for Communication Design and the recipient of grants from the Fulbright Foundation, Graham Foundation, and KW Institute for Contemporary Art. In March 2020, he started a live, participatory, online event series called Present!.
