Bennington Magazine Summer 2019: Call for Alumni Work

The next issue of the Bennington magazine will be authored by alumni submissions that respond to the question: What did you once think impossible that you now believe is possible? We invite you to submit responses by Monday, August 30. We expect a range of submissions—from first person narratives to scientific discoveries that you have helped to reveal to reflections on achievements you hardly imagined to essays or work that tackles the idea of the impossible in one way or another.

To be considered for inclusion in the summer issue, submissions must be emailed to magazine@bennington.edu no later than Monday, August 30. We will review submissions with an interest in building a magazine that can seam and represent many voices as possible. I look forward to your responses to the question, but before submitting please take a moment to review the guidelines.

WHO SHOULD SUBMIT?

All alumni should consider submitting something to this issue, unless your work has already been featured in the magazine recently. We hope to hear from writers, scientists, mathematicians, technologists, scholars, authors, artists, inventors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, activists, leaders, philosophers, and especially those of you working in hybrid worlds.

SUBMISSION FORMATTING

All submissions must be shared as an attached word or Google document. Please label your document with your first and last name, and class year. Do not send your text in an email, please attach it. All images should come as attached jpegs (300 dpi or higher) and titled with your first and last name. Please caption images. If you are submitting a reprint, please link to the story or attach a PDF. It is important to note where your submission was originally published.

WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT?

For this issue we are especially interested in discoveries, essays, interviews, op-eds, thought pieces, as well as other narrative structures well fit for a magazine format that respond to the question: What did you once think impossible that you now believe is possible?

WILL ALL SUBMISSIONS BE ACCEPTED?

All submissions will be considered; however, due to limited space in the magazine and an interest in consistent editorial standards, we may not be able to publish all submissions. If you have already submitted a response to a previous question, and have had your response featured, we will be unlikely to publish you again in an interest to include as many alumni in the magazine as possible.

WHEN WILL I KNOW IF MY SUBMISSION WAS SELECTED?

You’ll be notified by Monday, September 30.
