Metaphorical Narratives
The first major retrospective exhibition of Philemona Williamson '73 will be on view at Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey from September 16 through January 7, 2018.
The exhibition, “Metaphorical Narratives,” features 20 paintings that span Williamson’s career from 1988 to the present.
According to BlouinArtinfo, her paintings "depict adolescents intermingled and engaged in evocative poses and actions caught in awkward and enigmatic moments filled with mystery and universal significance ... Williamson’s works hold a unique space between abstraction and representation, dream and reality, metaphor and narrative."
