Reflected Samuel:
"My name is Samuel De Sousa. I am a dual Venezuelan-Portuguese citizen. I graduated from UWC Mahindra in 2018, and I am currently a Master of Public Policy (MPP) student at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
"I studied Political Science and French at Bennington College, driven by a passionate curiosity about global affairs. After graduating, I interned at Partners of the Americas, where I engaged in international development project evaluations and grant management. Following this internship, I joined the New Americans Initiative at the Harlem YMCA, a program dedicated to facilitating the integration and improving the lives of immigrants and refugees in New York City. At the Harlem Y, I assumed the role of Program Coordinator, a deeply fulfilling hands-on experience that solidified my interest in public policy.
"At the McCourt School of Public Policy, I am preparing myself to help solve some of the most pressing structural problems that affect all of us: a broken immigration system, growing social inequality, and decaying democratic institutions. It is thanks to the Davis UWC Scholars Program that I was able to access the educational opportunities that have allowed me to pursue my vocation and live the UWC mission. I am excited to see where life takes me next, knowing it will be somewhere I can advocate and work towards a society that understands that we all lose when others are left behind."
