World Premiere of "Fierce Grace"

Fierce Grace: Jeanette Rankine, co-composed by Kitty Brazelton, will have its world premiere at the Coolidge Auditorium on Friday, April 7, 2017, at 6:30 PM.

The Library of Congress and OPERA America co-present the World Premiere of Fierce Grace: Jeanette Rankin, a song cycle about the first woman elected to Congress featuring mezzo soprano Heather Johnson and pianist Mila Henry. The concert will be in the Coolidge Auditorium at the Library of Congress (101 Independence Ave SE, Washington, DC 20540) on Friday, April 7th, 2017 at 6:30 PM.

A poignant tale for our times, Fierce Grace: Jeanette Rankin explores the cognitive dissonance between doing what is popular versus doing what is right from the perspective of the first United States Congresswoman. Following the song cycle performance, the creators will hold a panel discussion on the state of women composers and librettists in the field of American opera.
