CANCELED—Karina Aguilera Skvirsky

CANCELED | Karina Aguilera Skvirsky is a video and performance artist based in New York City. In the 1970s, Skvirsky lived in Ecuador, in the city in which her mother was born. Her dual experiences of life in the United States and Ecuador are a cornerstone of her practice, “which uses personal narratives as a gateway to explore broader questions of place, identity and nationhood.” Skvirsky is a 2019 recipient of a Creative Capital grant to produce a project called How to build a wall and other ruins, which she has exhibited at Museo Amparo in Mexico and Ponce + Robles Gallery in Spain. Other exhibitions include the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Smack Mellon, and the 29th São Paulo Biennial. Skvirsky has participated in numerous artist residencies, including the Laundromat Project, and El Museo del Barrio. She is an Associate Professor of Art at Lafayette College.
