Erick Montes
Erick Montes is a choreographer and an interdisciplinary artist. His independent research explores the nuances of movement and technique in the context of improvisation and the field of the abstract imaginary, as essential aspects to the embodiment of his dances and training.
Biography
Montes is the Artistic Director of Danceable Projects in New York. He is a former member of the Bill T. Jones/ Arnie Zane Dance Company, where he collaborated for thirteen years as a leading dancer. He has also had the opportunity to dance in works by renowned choreographers such as Stephen Petronio, Lourdes Luna, Colleen Thomas-Young, Alicia Sanchez, Barro Rojo AE, Duane Cochran, Yin Mei, and Yara Travieso, among others. His original work has been presented internationally and recognized by the Foundation for the Arts of New York City, Fund for New Work, Harlem Stage, México’s FONCA grant network, the Mexican Studies Institute at CUNY, and the "Dance Fellowship and Life Experience" Award from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. His commissioned choreography includes works by The National Academy of Dance of Beijing, Barro Rojo Arte Escénico, DaDa Dance Project, and Loteria Performing Arts.
He earned an MFA in Dance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and graduated from the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance in Mexico City. He is also a certified yoga and meditation practitioner, integrating these practices into his dance pedagogy. Montes is a visiting faculty in the BFA Dance Lab at Bennington for Spring 2026.
