OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | This Bon Dance Festival is a joyful community event inspired by the Japanese tradition of Bon Odori, a dance performed during the Obon season to honor ancestors. Students enrolled in the Bon Dance course will demonstrate and teach various types of Bon dances to event attendees. Participants form a circle and follow simple, rhythmic dance steps led by students in the course. The festival highlights community connection, cultural exchange, and shared celebration—bringing people from all backgrounds together through dance, music, and tradition. It’s an opportunity to experience Japanese culture, build friendships, and foster a vibrant sense of community. Participants can also enjoy food and drinks, adding to the festive atmosphere and providing a taste of Japanese cuisine.

Please join us at this Bon Dance Festival to learn Bon dances, enjoy music, and celebrate cultural heritage in an inclusive and welcoming environment. This festival will take place on the lawn in front of the Commons, contingent on favorable weather. If the weather is not good, the event will be relocated to the Student Center.
