OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Please join us for a talk with Virginia F. Smith, retired Professor of Chemistry at the U.S. Naval Academy and past president of the Robert Frost Society, who is a leading scholar on the scientific and botanical imagery in Robert Frost's work.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | Virginia F. Smith is the author of A Scientific Companion to Robert Frost, the first comprehensive guide to catalog and explain the numerous references to science and natural history throughout Robert Frost's poetry.
The work reveals how Frost—often considered a nature-oriented rural poet—wove sophisticated scientific concepts, from astronomy and physics to biology and agriculture, into his famous stanzas.
Smith is also the editor of The Robert Frost Review, and has presented her research at several American Literature Association (ALA) conferences. Smith will discuss her research of Frost's own colorblindness and how it influenced his specific use of color words in his poetry.
