Jeanie Riess is a writer from New Orleans and is currently working on her first novel, which is about Mississippi.


Biography

Riess is a writer from New Orleans. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, the Oxford AmericanThe New York Times Magazine and The Atlantic's City Lab. She lives in Brooklyn, but for a few years she was a reporter in the South, first for a daily newspaper in the Mississippi Delta and then for a New Orleans alt-weekly called The Gambit. She was a fiction fellow at the University of Montana, where she taught creative writing. She was also a fellow at the Kenyon Review’s Young Writers Workshop in Gambier, Ohio. She is currently working on her first novel, which is about Mississippi.

While pursuing her MFA in the Bennington Writing Seminars, Riess served as a Residential Teaching Fellow for Fall 2019.
