Matthew Edwards is the piano instructor for the student that wants to learn multiple styles of music including classical, blues, jazz, and pop styles.


Biography

Edwards is a native of Maurepas, Louisiana, where he studied at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts and Southern University. While a student at Southern, he was a prize winner in the Debose National Piano Competition. Edwards is a noted band leader who leads the groups Buck2Fifty and Woodcock Johnson Blues Band that performs throughout the area. He is also an avid composer; his latest project was the score for the documentary film The Last Man. Edwards heads the choral program at Mount Anthony Union Middle School in Bennington is the music director at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, New York, and maintains a private teaching studio. He has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a solo performer, sideman, band leader, and choral conductor. Edwards has a bachelor’s degree in music education, a master’s degree in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Edwards was an instructor at Bennington in Fall 2014-Spring 2017 and returned for Fall 2023.
