On October 14, Bennington Rising–a collaboration between Bennington College, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC), Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU), and Mount Anthony Union High School–met at Bennington College's Commons to begin work on science-related mentorship and educational projects.

Yasmine Fundi ’25 studies Biology and Dance at Bennington. She reflected upon her Field Work Term at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, a member of Dartmouth Health, in Bennington, VT, and shared her plans for after graduation.

Three students presented their research experiences working with Drosophila: the common fruit fly. As varied as their research was, each agreed that fruit flies are a great model organism. Each exemplified the perseverance required in scientific research, and all would encourage students to apply for research experiences.

This fall, Bennington welcomed seven new full-time faculty members to the College. 

While students embark on Field Work Term, an annual work-learning term during which students gain hands-on experience and test their classroom ideas in the world of work, Bennington faculty, staff, and students offer their reading recommendations to keep everyone’s intellectual juices flowing wherever they are.
