OPEN TO THE PUBLIC |  There will be an opening reception for a photography exhibition co-curated by Bennington students through Jonathan Kline's class "Laura Gilpin & The Platinum Print." The exhibition (and reception) will take place at the Bennington Museum; 75 Main St, Bennington, VT 05201. The reception is free to the Bennington College community, on Saturday, October 7, from 2:30-4:00 PM.  The exhibit runs through December 15, 2017.

When Laura Gilpin passed away in 1979 most of her negatives, photographs, and letters went to the permanent archive at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Three portfolios of photographs however were kept by her family and our class is fortunate to have this opportunity to share with the public a selection from these portfolios which include photographs by Gilpin herself as well as photographs given to Gilpin over her long career by friends and mentors, including Clarence H. White and Gertrude Kasebier.

Our class is grateful for contributing help from the Gilpin archive housed at the Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth, Texas; Professor Martha Sandweiss, Department of History, Princeton University; William Clift; and especially to Gilpin's relative, Brooke Allen, who generously lent all the works on view from her private collection.
