Handal MFA '02 Finalist for $50,000 Writer's Grant
Award-winning poet, playwright, and writer Nathalie Handal MFA '02 was named a finalist for the 2009 Gift of Freedom Award by A Room of Her Own, a foundation for female artists.
The biennial $50,000 award is given to a woman writer with solid creative goals and a specific writing project to accomplish during the two-year term of the grant. Handal was one of six finalists chosen from 750 applicants.
Handal was also featured on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer recently as part of the program's ongoing Poetry Series, which included coverage of her reading at this year's Arabesque Festival in Washington D.C.
