Ibarra Performs at Olympic Festival
Bennington music faculty member Susie Ibarra joined leading musicians from all 204 Olympic nations for a two-day music festival celebrating the opening of the 2012 Summer Games in London.
Ibarra, a composer and percussionist who joins the Bennington faculty this year, performed new works from her collaboration with British-Indian clarinetist Arun Ghosh on Sunday, July 22, in London’s Battersea Park.
Ibarra has been composing music for 16 years and performing for more than two decades. She has recorded more than 40 works as a collaborator, composer and bandleader. Among her several honors, Ibarra is the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship for Music/Sound, as well as a TED Fellowship recognizing her as “a young world-changer and trailblazer who has shown unusual accomplishment and exceptional courage.”
In addition to joining Bennington's music faculty, Ibarra will teach in the Center for the Advancement of Public Action on issues related to the extension of human rights to women and girls.
