Roxbury-born Songwriter Daria MonDesire salutes her hometown with the release of her new single, "We've Got Heart in Boston," now available across all major streaming platforms.
The lyrics pay homage to the city's no-nonsense, 'Boston Charming' ethos, and celebrate even the scofflaws who call dibs on shoveled out parking spaces.
The release, produced by Peter Young of Nashville, features MonDesire on vocals; or, as she quips, "unfeatures." "I sang because the song is meant for every Boston-lover and every voice," says MonDesire. "No Rihannas required. All you need is pride in the city."
The song's arrangement showcases a mélange of West African and Celtic drumming, Irish tin whistle, and a touch of Bahian rhythm. As for the Boston accent in the vocals, "That's how I sound," says MonDesire. "I wanted to honor the fact that Boston is a diverse city. There's a misperception that the Boston accent is a White accent. But I can't tell you the number of times people have tried to get me to say "park the car in the Harvard yard." Bostonians of any ethnicity can have a Boston accent, and often do."

Daria MonDesire is a Bennington College alumna and an award-winning writer. Her short story, "Reflections," is etched in stone outside Boston's Green Street T station. MonDesire is a MacDowell Fellow who calls Boston and Vermont's Northeast Kingdom home.
