Kate Burton first met Nicholas Martin when she was cast as Alice to his Dormouse in the 1982 Eva LeGalliene production of Alice in Wonderland on Broadway. She was directed by Martin in The Royal Family, four productions of Hedda Gabler, The Cherry Orchard and The House of Blue Leaves, also A Midsummer Night's Dream and two productions of The Corn is Green with her children, Morgan and Charlotte Ritchie. These were performed at many theaters including Williamstown, Bay Street, The Huntington, The Mark Taper Forum and on Broadway. Her sister, Amy Christopher '89, was Nicky's student at Bennington and has cast many of his plays at Williamstown and The Roundabout. Her husband, Michael Ritchie, produced many of Nicky's productions including two productions of the fabled Dead End. It must also be noted that Kate appeared with Brooks Ashmanskas '91 in Neil Simon's London Suite where he played the scene-stealing bellhop and earned his Equity card. Celebrating Bennington and Nicky (often referred to as her youngest child) is a family affair.
