For the 25th anniversary of the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show (NBOSS), Technical Instructor in Visual Arts John Umphlett MFA '99 will do a live performance, Flipping One Over a Bush, first performed 22 years ago at the third NBOSS in 2000.

During the first two weeks of the class “Examining Space,” eighteen students learned how to shape foundry wax and prepare sand molds for the purpose of conceiving and realizing an object in iron. 

Coming to work at Bennington College is nothing new to new sculpture faculty John Umphlett; he has been a technical instructor in sculpture here for more than 20 years.

As Bennington begins the second half of the Fall 2020 term, we reflect on the ways our community has adapted to learning and living on campus and beyond this fall—and the experiences, successes, and moments of joy along the way.

Earlier this year, Design and Planning Coordinator Erin McKenny and faculty member Jon Isherwood were approached by the organizers of the annual North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show (NBOSS) to explore how Bennington students could engage with the Village School of North Bennington (VSNB) and participate in the outdoor sculpture show.

While students embark on Field Work Term, an annual work-learning term during which students gain hands-on experience and test their classroom ideas in the world of work, Bennington faculty offer their reading recommendations to keep everyone’s intellectual juices flowing wherever they are.

Artists Sarah Fetterman '14 and Nicole Czapinski '06 returned to campus this autumn for a residency supported by the Woodbury Foundation.

On March 2, students from Josh Blackwell’s Intermediate Painting class installed Alexander Liberman’s Big Blue Circle outside of the Suzanne Lemberg Usdan Gallery.
