In this three hour workshop, join artist Emily Tareila to make natural, water-based inks from plants to create local, seasonal color. We'll learn about some histories of natural color, think about our own relationship to color and prep, cook and process four different inks. We'll also experiment with different additives, such as mordants, to create multiple colors and variations from the same plant. At the end of this workshop, participants will receive ink samples, printed resources for future use, and postcard takeaways. Sample plants include goldenrod, Queen Anne's lace, carrot tops, onion skin, and red cabbage, including plants gathered from the Robert Frost Stone House Museum.

Please bring your favorite watercolor brushes if you have them and four, jam-sized glass jars with lids. We will provide brushes and jars if you need! If you have accessibility concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Children aged 12+ with adult accompaniment welcome.
