Allen Shawn Featured on The Jewish Lives Podcast
Music faculty member Allen Shawn has been featured on The Jewish Lives Podcast to discuss the music and artistic life of Leonard Bernstein.
In 2014, Shawn published Leonard Bernstein: An American Musician (Yale University Press), which explores his roles as a conductor and teacher and the spectacular range of music he composed—from West Side Story to Kaddish to A Quiet Place and beyond.
For The Jewish Lives Podcast, Shawn reflects on Bernstein's compositional techniques and relationship to faith, and shares his appreciation of the musical genius who stood at the epicenter of 20th-century American musical life.
