COVID update

The following statement was sent to our campus community, in response to a report from the Rensselaer County Health Department in nearby Rensselaer County, NY. For more information, please see our COVID update page.

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

I wanted to let you know the Rensselaer County Health Department recently reported a positive case in their county which they identified as a Bennington College student. This was an error. Bennington College has no current positive COVID cases on campus or in our community.

We learned of the Rensselaer County Health Department announcement via local media. Our staff reached out to the Rensselaer County Health Department, who connected us with their contact tracers. We were given the name of a student for whom we had no records. Upon investigation, the contact tracers determined the person in question is a student of Binghamton University, not Bennington College.

Bennington College has had no positive test results on campus since the 3 identified through arrival testing in late August, all of which have since recovered. We encourage people to continue wearing masks, social distancing, washing their hands—these are the steps that have helped keep our community safe.

With thanks,

Oceana Wilson
Acting Dean of the College and Dean of the Library
