Yeshi '11 to Open Exhibition of Photos by Leprosy Patients
Bennington student Noryang Yeshi '11 will celebrate the opening of Anandwan, an exhibition of photographs taken at a leprosy clinic in central India, on Monday, April 27, from 6-10 pm in the College's Barn East Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.
The exhibition includes 30 photographs taken by Yeshi and two young leprosy patients from the Anandwan Rehabilitation Center, Sandeep and Mangesh—both of whom are under 12 years old. Noryang traveled to Anandwan during Bennington's annual, seven-week Field Work Term, bringing with her five digital cameras to distribute among patients.
"Mangesh and Sandeep truly grasped the core of the lives of the people with whom they live," Yeshi said. "Their photographs view the curiosities of a child and capture what they had lost in their own pasts ... My intention for this show is not to promote my own work but theirs."
Anandwan is the first project of Quantum Leap Connections, which supports youth who are facing challenges around the world. Quantum Leap Connections is a new branch of Quantum Leap, an affiliate of Bennington College. The exhibition will remain open to the public until Monday, May 10.
