On-Campus Housing During Breaks and Field Work Terms

Bennington offers limited on-campus housing during winter and summer breaks and Field Work Terms (FWTs). Please review this page carefully for eligibility, costs, and application details.

The 2026-2027 WB/FWT housing application is now live in StarRez.

Housing Deadline and Decision Timeline

  • Application deadline: November 17, 2026
  • Decision timeline: You will hear whether or not your application has been approved by December 1, 2026.

Note: The release of the 2026-27 WB/FWT application is one week later than in years past, so we have also extended the deadline by one week.

Eligibility

To be eligible for on-campus housing during WB/FWT, you must be in good academic and financial standing during the most recent fall semester and meet one of the following criteria:

  • You are an international student whose permanent residence is outside of the United States.
  • You have an approved FWT placement in Bennington or North Bennington that requires in-person participation. Verification from the Office of Career Development and Field Work Term is required.
  • You are working with faculty on an academic project requiring in-person campus access. Note: Faculty verification is required. Contact your supporting faculty member directly regarding the approval process.
  • You have an approved special circumstance (e.g., independent student for FAFSA).

Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee housing, as space is limited. We encourage you to apply for housing even if you are unsure of your break or FWT plans.

If you are unsure whether you are eligible for housing, please contact housing@bennington.edu.

Availability

On-campus housing availability is limited. Singles are not guaranteed unless you have a documented and approved ADA housing accommodation for a single room. You should plan to have a roommate, but you may request a preferred roommate.

Approval for housing does not necessarily mean that you can remain in your current room. Students may need to move to a different housing assignment.

Housing Costs and Financial Support

Housing during winter or summer breaks and FWT is charged separately from term housing.

The 2026-2027 housing costs are as follows:

  • Winter Break and FWT: $1,000
  • Summer Break and FWT: $1100

The Office of Career Development and Field Work Term collaborates with Financial Aid and the Business Office to provide need-based stipends for eligible students. Students who qualify will be contacted individually. No separate application is needed.

Students with a financial hold on their account will not be eligible for winter or summer break or FWT housing until the hold is resolved. For assistance, please reach out to the Business Office.

Indirect Costs: Financial Aid estimates budgeting for $500–$600 in food expenses for WB/FWT.

Cancellation

If your application is approved but you no longer need housing, the deadline to cancel WB/FWT housing is December 11, 2026. After this date, the housing fee will remain on your student bill.
