Caroline Barnhart '13
Dartmouth College ’12
Caroline earned a degree in History and minored in Psychology at Dartmouth College. Before arriving at Bennington, she gained experience in a wide array of fields, including studying art history in Russia, working as a clerk in a law firm, interning at Columbia’s Department of Anesthesiology, and conducting research at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center’s department of Gynecology.
“Upon entering college, the one thing I knew that I didn’t want to pursue was medicine. However, after spending extensive time as a patient in the fields of both psychology and medicine, and after having both wonderful and awful experiences in both, I found out the difference that an individual doctor can make, and I knew that I wanted to be that doctor tangibly changing the patient’s life for the better.
“My favorite part of the postbac program is that every class is a conversation between the professor and the students—as opposed to a professor lecturing and the students asking occasional questions. Furthermore, I love the way the professors encourage us to work together; if there is a concept I can’t quite wrap my head around, I know that someone else in the program does understand that concept and will go out of his or her way to explain it to me.
“I don’t think I would have chosen a one-year program if it weren’t for the size and attitude of Bennington’s program. The focused and collaborative character of this program is what makes completing my pre-med requirements in one year doable.”
