Licensure for Clinical Mental Health and Mental Health Counseling

American States and Territories Boards of Licensure for Clinical Mental Health and Mental Health Counseling

The Bennington College MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling meets the educational requirements of many state licensure boards. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to consult the counseling licensure board or other applicable licensing authority in the state where they plan to seek licensure to confirm that the program meets that jurisdiction’s requirements. Understanding the educational, internship, and other requirements of the state in which a student intends to seek licensure can help them plan their program of study appropriately. With the guidance of the program director and faculty, student plans of study may be adjusted to meet the requirements for a specific state. Students will also be supported in completing additional internship hours if required by their state.

The information provided pertains to this program and the educational requirements for clinical mental heath counselor licensure within each of the U.S. states and territories. Students are responsible for understanding and monitoring the specific licensure requirements of the state in which they intend to practice, keeping in mind requirements may change. If a student changes residence, they are responsible for reviewing any new state’s licensure requirements. Completion of the program does not guarantee licensure in any particular jurisdiction.
