Course Description

Summary

This course will utilize Bennington’s Piano Lab to explore and develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively play non-classical piano repertoire. Styles covered are: blues, reggae, salsa, bossa-nova and jazz. Students will take turns learning and playing bass lines, chord voicings, stylistic rhythms, melodies and improvised solos. Corequisties: participation in Music Workshop (Tuesdays 6:30-8pm)

Prerequisites

Basic piano skills and a rudimentary knowledge of music notation. Audition and/or permission of the instructor. Auditions will take place by appointment on Tuesday 11/27 and Wednesday 11/28. To schedule a time please email Bruce Williamson at bwilliamson@bennington.edu
