Course Description

Summary

This class will introduce students to creating digital archive that includes digitizing photographs, documents, art works, file management, and basic types of metadata. We will have discussions about why digitizing personal collections is so important. Students will be expected to bring their own materials to the class. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop skills in digitizing negatives, slides, print photographs, artworks, documents, unbound printed matter, manuscripts, documents on microfilm, graphic arts, newspapers, and magazines up to size 12.2 x 17.2" / 31 x 43.7 cm.

    Editing digitized images with Adobe Photoshop as needed

    File naming and creating structured folders

    Understanding the basic type of metadata

    Understanding digital imaging - basic terminology

    Develop skills in assessment and selection materials before digitization.

    Knowledge of supplies and equipment
