Course Description

Summary

Open to all levels, this course integrates movement, voice, writing, and song. These four-hour sessions apply the principles of "Contemplative Action" to a collective creative process. The work is framed by the teaching artist’s current project, which investigates the mythical figure of Cassandra and explores the "unheard voices" in our personal and collective minds that constrain liberation.

Rather than merely observing the myth, participants will embody both Cassandra and the listener simultaneously. We will explore this within ourselves and as a collective, navigating non-linear time and culture through language that transcends intellectual comprehension. Here, language serves as a means to enter the schism between intuition and conscious address, expressed through sound, breath, phonemes, words, gesture, and silence.

Students committed to attending all sessions are invited to extend their experience in applying the performance praxis off-site at Black Hole Hollow, a local land-based learning and creative arts center.

Course dates: September 2, 9, & 16
