Course System Home Terms Spring 2017 Fascinating Rhythm: Costume Design for Musicals

Course Description

Summary

In this class we will focus on designing the costumes for a series of increasingly complex stage musicals. We will listen to recordings, read and discuss scripts and investigate character. Possible projects might include a non- scripted work such as 'Songs for a New World' by Jason Robert Brown, a documentary based musical such as 'Grey Gardens' by Doug Wright, Scott Frankel and Michael Korie, and a work based on a novel such as 'The Light in the Piazza' by Adam Guettel or 'Violet' by Jeanine Tesori and Michael Crawley. Please note that these will be 'paper projects' and will not involve the production of actual costumes.
