Course Description

Summary

**** New day/time as of 2/8/2022 **** Parametric modeling can be used to create generative art, repetitive architectural elements, structural models, and statistical data among many other uses. A visual programming language (VPL) is one that uses graphic elements within an interface rather than textual code. This course is an introduction to creating visual material through algorithms without learning how to script. Students will use logic to solve a series of design problems (using Grasshopper 3D, a VPL environment that runs within the Rhino 3D modeling software) before embarking on individual projects that make use of the programming tools. Students should be willing to work on (and with) algorithms, and apply basic math in this visual art course.
