Course Description

Summary

This is an advanced course in drawing for students interested in developing a sustained, semester-long drawing based project or body of work. Students will work on self-directed projects in an effort to develop and refine individual concerns and subject matter. To thrive in this course, the development of a strong work ethic is crucial and a high level of commitment is expected. Students will present work regularly for in-class group critique and for individual studio visits with the instructor. Due to the individualized nature of this course students will be responsible for purchasing whatever materials are necessary to realize their projects.

Learning Outcomes

  • Build a robust, disciplined, and rigorous studio practice
  • Develop advanced work through consistent feedback in the form of group critiques and individual meetings with the instructor
  • Create an independent/self-directed body of work in drawing
  • Hone written and verbal skills for discussing one's own work and that of others
