Sound Joined Rooms
Course Description
Summary
Pioneering sound artist Maryanne Amacher created architectural sonic environments that were at once mystical, ethereal, and intensely physical. In her body of work, which she called, “Music for Sound Joined Rooms,” she would probe and test architecture with the equipment kept in just two suitcases. In this course, students with little or no previous knowledge of electronic music, will dive into creating their own immersive sonic installations. Taking Amacher’s methods as a starting point, we will learn how to build our own "perceptual geography” of sonic experiments - kept in two compact suitcases of our own. This course is open to advanced music students but also to artists of all disciplines who want to approach sound from a different perspective. In this course we will be painting, sculpting, and telling stories with sound. The course will culminate in a collaborative sound event, open to the public.
