Course Description

Summary

This intermediate to advanced level ceramics course is designed for students with at least one college-level ceramics prerequisite who want to explore sculptures, vessels, or functional forms. Assignments will be conceptually driven, requiring independent research.Topics may incorporate both functional and sculptural forms, exploring how contemporary work connects to historical ceramic objects. Coursework will include readings, research, and project development through drawing, writing and making. Designed for students who have begun building some technical proficiency, this course deepens engagement with advanced ceramic processes. 

Each student will be required to give two presentations: an introductory talk on their own work and another on an artist or an issue of interest to them in the arts and its relationship to their art practice. 

Seniors will be required to write an artist statement and submit a photographic portfolio of their senior work in ceramics.
