Course Description

Summary

No previous experience in dance or movement practice is required. This course is open to any students who are interested in investigating a relationship between their impulse and movements, and where those impulses come from. By studying some principles and practices of butoh, which originated in Japan as a contemporary avant-garde dance form, we aim to liberate ourselves from pre-fixed images of our bodies and search for alternate and original ways of approaching them. Co-requisite: Dance or Drama lab assignment if students sign up for 4 or more credits in dance.
