Tai-Chi and Qi-Gong
Course Description
Summary
Tai Chi (太极拳) is a Chinese martial art and meditative system. Its symbol is the well-known Yin–Yang (太极) diagram, representing balance and harmony.
This course is designed not only as a way to relax the body, reduce anxiety, and improve overall physical health, but also as an opportunity to learn the complete forms of Zheng-style Tai Chi.
In this course, students will gain practical experience in Tai Chi while also learning elements of Daoist philosophy that underlie the practice. Over the duration of the course, students will learn and practice the full 37-posture form developed by Zheng Manqing, a style widely practiced in Taiwan.
Each class will begin with Qi Gong (Ba Duan Jin, “Eight Pieces of Brocade”), a series of gentle exercises used as a warm-up to relax the body, regulate breathing, and cultivate vital energy (气qi). Both Tai Chi and Qi Gong are commonly practiced in Taiwanese culture for health, balance, and martial art.
This course is taught entirely in English, requires no prior experience, and welcomes both beginners and returning students for continued practice.
