Course Description

Summary

Building on foundational narrative therapy concepts, students will explore in-depth techniques for working with individuals, couples, and families. The course covers topics such as externalizing problems, developing alternative narratives, and using narrative therapy in complex cases involving trauma, identity, and cultural issues. Through case studies, role-plays, and supervised practice, students will refine their skills in facilitating transformative change using narrative techniques.

Learning Outcomes

  • • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in using narrative therapy techniques, including externalizing problems and facilitating the re-authoring process, and critically evaluate the role of power, privilege, and oppression in shaping client narratives and implement strategies to empower clients to resist dominant, unhelpful narratives.
  • • Design and facilitate narrative therapy interventions that promote personal agency, resilience, and positive identity development.
  • • Apply ethical and reflective practices when using advanced narrative therapy techniques in clinical work.
