Course Description
Summary
This course focuses on the ethical and legal standards that govern clinical mental health counseling. Students will explore topics such as confidentiality, informed consent, dual relationships, and ethical decision-making models. The course also addresses professional issues, including licensure, supervision, and the role of advocacy in counseling. Students will demonstrate understanding of the ethics of Expressive Arts Therapy within the broader scope of the field, highlighting the counseling process, ethical standards, and professional identity of an expressive arts therapist.
This course also includes the Basic Counseling Skills Workshops which takes place at Residency and over the course of the semester. Participation in these workshops in a required component of successful completion of this course.

- Demonstrate understanding of ethical and legal standards specific to Expressive Arts Therapy, including confidentiality, informed consent, dual relationships, and how these principles apply in the counseling process.
- Analyze ethical decision-making models within the context of Expressive Arts Therapy, addressing unique challenges related to creative modalities, client autonomy, and cultural sensitivity.
- Develop a professional identity as an expressive arts therapist, integrating the ethical standards of the counseling field with the specific considerations and responsibilities of practicing Expressive Arts Therapy.
