Special Topics in Expressive Arts Therapy
CME5015.01
Course Description
Summary
Students may design their own elective courses in EXAT such as: Dreamwork, Focusing & Expressive Arts Practices, Movement Processes, and Drama in EXAT. Students will submit a proposal for their elective course to the EXAT Specialization Coordinator for approval, with learning outcomes and a proposed bibliography, before the residency that precedes completing the course.
Learning Outcomes
- Conceptualize, design, and justify a specialized EXAT elective by articulating advanced learning outcomes, a coherent course structure, and a scholarly bibliography that situates the chosen expressive arts modality within relevant theoretical, clinical, and interdisciplinary contexts.
- Demonstrate advanced experiential and reflective engagement with expressive arts practices (e.g., dreamwork, focusing, movement, drama) through sustained practice, critical self-reflection, and analysis of how embodied and imaginal processes contribute to learning, insight, and therapeutic meaning-making.
- Critically evaluate the application of expressive arts modalities by integrating theory, research, and experiential knowledge to address ethical considerations, cultural responsiveness, and contextual appropriateness in clinical, educational, or community-based settings.
