Course Description
Summary
This course examines the impact of culture, identity, and systemic inequities on the counseling process. Students explore mental health needs within diverse communities, including racial, ethnic, LGBTQ+, rural, and urban populations, and analyze how intersecting factors such as socioeconomic status, gender, and geography influence access and treatment. Emphasis is placed on developing cultural humility, critically examining power and privilege, and applying culturally responsive and affirming practices in clinical settings.
