Course Description
Summary
We will address the process of discerning a text’s dramatic potential and realizing that potential in performance by developing and implementing a directorial approach through analysis and rehearsal techniques. While technically a second 7 week intensive, there will be at least three class meetings (time TBD) in September, followed by individual consultations. These tutorial conversations will culminate in a director's approach essay. The second 7 weeks will consist of rehearsals of individual projects, and group discussions of same. In addition to the director’s approach essay, the work will culminate in a performance of student-directed scenes either recorded, or performed “live” via Zoom, or another form of the director’s choosing, and a rehearsal log.
Tools: Students will need a device that allows synchronous participation during designated class time via Zoom, a solid internet connection to observe others' rehearsals, the ability to make hard copies of text (i.e. download print) will greatly streamline assignments. You will need to be able to view submitted auditions, be willing to organize rehearsals and work with remote participants. I am not a resource for the technical needs. In fact, I look to learn from YOU what possible solutions there are.
